Organize Your Home Business

Organize Your Home Business from efficiently arranging your home office and office supplies to building your business in an efficient, functional space.

If you work from home or are thinking about it, one of the most important details you'll need to attend to is getting and staying organized.

Running a business out of your home presents some definite organizing challenges.

You must start and keep your business organized or you will become inefficient.

If you have already started a Home Business and are here, then you probably recognize the need for some re-organizing to become more effective.

Realistic Organizing Approach

Home Organize It! offers a Realistic Organizing Approach. It's the way to go if you don't want to drive yourself crazy trying to keep up with everything.

You want to have an Organized Home. You also want to have an Organized Home Business.

You need to keep the two separate but they just keep crossing over...school papers sit on your desk next to today's orders and why is that invoice on the kitchen counter? To help you gain control of your business papers, check out Home Office Paperwork.

You may already "know" what you are about to read, but just as it is with most things, it's always helpful to review!

Home Businesses are growing faster than statistic-takers can compile statistics even with the speed of today's technology. According to a recent Harris poll, 72% of American households are thinking about starting a home-based business. Why such a high percentage?

Well in the case of moms, many families are wanting to enjoy the work from home lifestyle for a variety of reasons. They want to be home with their kids, leave behind long, time-consuming commutes, still bring in a second income, etc. The Work At Home Moms Masters Course is an excellent resource for moms (and dads) who desire to stay at home and earn an income too. This particular WAHM Course also includes a wonderful mini e-book entitled "Get Organized To Work From Home."

There are so many benefits of working from home. Let's talk about how YOU will benefit from being reasonably organized with all aspects of a home business...

You will be able to keep your business separate from your family life.

You will become more productive because you will know what direction you are heading in and where everything is.

You will develop a realistic plan of when you can actually work on your home business (around family needs).

Keeping Your Home Business Separate From Your Home Life

Here it comes... that relentless fact...

YOU MUST SCHEDULE TIME TO GET ORGANIZED IF YOU WANT TO GET ORGANIZED!!!

It doesn't happen by itself but it can happen with surprisingly little effort!

So why do we keep procrastinating over this critical foundational step?

Because we are so busy! There's kids, spouses, church activities, school meetings, aging parents, friends, phone calls, meal planning, cooking and shopping, cleaning, repairing, landscaping, sports, music...And that's just a little of what we do, all the while trying to develop and/or grow a home business which requires...

Brainstorming, researching, writing, phone calls, e-mails, computer knowledge, Web site development, bookkeeping, e-zine publishing...the list seems endless.

So let's take a realistic look at how many hours in a day that you really have available. How to do this?

Estimate how many and which hours of the day you could have available to devote primarily to your Home Business. Of course, we always "could" find a million other things to fill our time!

Flexibility And Creative Scheduling

Flexibility and creative scheduling top the list of benefits of working from home. You do not need to work at the same time every day or even during "business hours." In fact, if you have an online business, there are business hours available 24/7!

Also, if you are energetic in the morning or in the evening, you can try to shift your routine activities to different times of the day, allowing you to work on your Home Business during higher energy times.

So, whether you're a stay home mom, working student or full-time employee, you might be surprised to find you actually do have 5 hours a week to work on your business! Alternatively, you might be surprised to find you could have 20 hours a week to work on your business if you get more organized. Whether it's 5 or 20, a successful Home Business is conceivable when you prioritize office organization.

Take Control Of Your Time

It takes dedication, persistence, and practice but you CAN make it happen. By getting more organized, you can create more time for your Home Business.

To help you take better control of your time, make sure you have a calendar or planner and use it to it's full potential.

Okay, are you convinced that YOU can start your own Home Business or improve on the one you have? Great!

Even if you already have a Home Business, the following ideas may help you re-organize it. Or feel free to skip ahead to whatever interests you.

Brainstorm

What type of business would you like to start? Everyone has a gift or talent that could be developed into a business.

Ask yourself: What do I enjoy doing? What do I know about? What am I good at? What are others always asking me to do and why?

When I wanted to take my Local Residential Organizing Business online, I came across Make Your Knowledge Sell! by Ken Evoy and Monique Harris. Although at this point I have no plans to write a book about organizing...I do enjoy sharing my organizing "Knowledge" online and this book helped me to share my organizing tips with you!

Make Your Knowledge Sell! helps you find YOUR special niche. Consider this: How long have you been in business? Enjoying a hobby? Taking care of someone or something? You've learned a lot but very gradually, so that you don't even realize how much you know! You have years of information that other people need to know and will even pay for! So start brainstorming now and you too can Make Your Knowledge Sell!

Okay, you've brainstormed and have discovered an area in your life in which you possess a wealth of information! Or perhaps you have refined the concept for your already-established Home Business. Great!

Consider A Web Site

What's the next thing to organize? Assuming you already have a Reasonably Organized HO (see Organized Home Office), how about building a Web site?

WHAT??? You don't know how? Well, let me tell you a story. I promise to keep it short...

Less than two years ago, the only thing I knew how to do on the computer was e-mail and surf the net. Does anyone remember Cobol? That was the extent of my computer background...archaic!

One day I read an article about the benefits of having a Web site even for a Service Business. The article intrigued me and I began to wonder if I should look into having one built for my Residential Organizing Service.

While researching, I was encouraged by another Professional Organizer to build and maintain my own site so that I would have total control. I'll admit, I like to control my direction but BUILD MY OWN WEB SITE??? It seemed impossible considering my computer background.

However, the more I considered it the more intrigued I became. I like a challenge, I thought. So I began a two-month search for a do-it-yourself Website builder. I took out books on HTML, Dreamweaver, Web Monkey and a host of others. A lot of what I read was beyond my scope of understanding. I wanted to build a Web site for my Organizing Service not become a computer techie!

Finally I faced "the enemy" and started to search on the Internet. I investigated one Web site building program after another. I'll admit to being discouraged once in a while but I persisted. They all seemed to be saying the same thing...you'll have your site up and running in a few hours or days and begin making money in no time... almost like a Get Rich Quick type message.

Well, we all know there is no such thing as GRQ. But I pressed on and eventually came across SBI! At last...a Site Building Web Site that offered more than just getting a site up and running. Site Build It!'s
C T P M process made sense.

I read that you must provide great theme-based Content on your site because people on the Internet are searching for good information.

You need to build Traffic to your site. People have to have a way to find you!

Then you must develop trust and confidence ("PRE-sell") by delivering relevant, high-value information.

And then you Monetize willing-to-buy visitors in various ways.

Very interesting, I thought, and went on for several weeks reading, researching and exploring EVERYTHING having to do with Site Build It! and this C T P M process they talk about.

There are a few other very organized and fairly complete Web building packages but Site Build It! topped every one of them in all of the comparisons I made.

I bought Site Build It! (which, by the way, cost LESS than my Yellow Pages ad!) and began to build Home Organize It! all on my own. You can do this too!

SBI! makes it "click-easy" to create your own Web site even if you have no technical knowledge at all. It even shows you what theme-related keywords will be the most profitable! And best of all...it's VERY ORGANIZED! :)

The benefits of having a Web site for just about any type of business are immeasurable but are really not within the scope of this Organizing Site.

Earning additional income while doing what you love may be just enough of a reason. I know it was for me!

Let's Review
