Organizing Weekend Guests' Clothes by: The Organizer
Hi Dee,
I can relate to that "living out of a suitcase" situation. It is very hard to organize clothes for people who are not there all the time, but it can be done. You might have to be a little creative in making space, especially for five people.
I would suggest using a chest of drawers with at least five drawers for underclothes, socks, pajamas, shorts, and personal items for your bi-weekly guests. You might even consider purchasing portable, stackable drawers for them. That would give each of them appropriately 3 drawers each and the three drawer units can be stacked (if you don't install the casters) to take up less space, but it's not very pretty.
If you want something sturdier (and prettier), you might like the two drawer stackable cubes. They could even be used as nightstands or end tables.
Hanging clothes takes up less space than drawers, so I suggest hanging all pants, shirts and dresses on a portable clothes rack.
.
Now, where to put it all?
If you use a wooden chest of drawers, it could be placed in the living room or even the kitchen. Decorate it with knick knacks that match your décor and maybe a nice doily or a crocheted cover to give it some style. Not everyone has a chest of drawers in their living room or kitchen, but not everyone faces your situation. Having their own space will make the bi-weekly guests feel more at home.
Now for the hanging rack. Perhaps it could be placed in the laundry room if you have one. You might also consider installing bars over your washer and dryer to hang clothes on. Once you get the "extras" out of the bedrooms, it will easier for you to organize the clothes for the people who live there all the time.
