My Cleaning Service Story

My Cleaning Service Story is an unbelievable account of conquering household overwhelm after a challenging year. There is a definite "moral of the story" here!

Have you ever thought about hiring a Cleaning Service?

If you have never had a Cleaning Service, read My Cleaning Service Story!

This past year has been difficult and chaotic for me. We all experience these "seasons" from time to time and usually we muddle our way through in one way or another.

In addition, I have been working pretty hard on this site as well as my offline Organizing Business.

I Kept Getting Further and Further Behind

So you can imagine that I may not be as organized as I was a year ago. Hey, it even happens to Organizers! Top that with the fact that cleaning is NOT my passion (although I LOVE a clean home) and you have the recipe for a rather frustrating environment. Through the recent CHAOS (remember Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome?) I have basically been cleaning the absolute essentials...the "tops and middles" as The Fly Lady calls them.

Summer Break Was Looming

In our part of the country, our children have a three month "summer break" and this was looming in a week or so.

On a Friday before summer break, I was driving in a nearby subdivision and saw a car parked in a driveway with a magnet advertising a Cleaning Service.

I was attracted to it for two reasons. First, I have been contemplating getting magnet ads for my car for the Organizing Business and second, I thought the name "Dust 'Till Dawn" was great! I actually pulled over and wrote down the name and number thinking, well you never know...

Taking Action On Wishful Thinking

That afternoon I began to think how wonderful it would be to have someone come out and help me do a deep clean. I was so overwhelmed by the fact that I wasn't keeping up and it was becoming a distraction. You are not going to believe what happened next.

About 4:00 p.m. I called "Dust 'Till Dawn." This call was COMPLETELY out of character for me. After all, I have always been able to "do it all", right?!

I was upfront, saying that this would be a one-time clean or very occasional and that I just need catching up. The owner told me they were pretty booked for the next month and a half. Then I said in what must have been a weary voice "Oh, I was hoping I could get someone to come out tonight.

"TONIGHT?!#%* she exclaimed. Are you SERIOUS???

"Well," I said, "I could be...

"Silence

Then,

"Can I call you back?"

"Sure", I said, trying not to think that this could ever happen in a million years.

45 minutes later the owner called and said two of them could come out in about one hour!

Hooray! I could NOT believe it!

The Frantic "Put It Away" Session

I rounded up the younger kids and we raced around putting away anything laying about and got ready for the "Big Clean."

What a treat this would be! And so begins My Cleaning Service Story... If you knew me at all, you would also know that this was a definite FIRST.

What My Teenager Said

When I asked my teen to pick up her room and told her the reason, her response was:

ARE YOU CRAZY?...I MEAN, ER, UH...SERIOUS???

Once she thought about it, she was probably ecstatic that she wouldn't have to help with what I call "Serious Cleaning."

The Arrival Of Relief

At 7:00 p.m. on that Friday night, the owner of Dust 'Till Dawn and one of her employees (angels) showed up and we dug in.

They worked quickly and efficiently from one end of the house to the other.

I worked on all the remaining needs...laundry (very behind), basement, any area not included in their fee.

They folded and stacked the towels and re-made all the beds in hotel-style fashion. They organized my children's stuff all the while scrubbing, mopping, polishing and Dusting 'Till Dawn...well, 11:00. That's right, 11:00 p.m. on a Friday night!

How Excited Was I?

Can you tell how excited I was? I thought so. So from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. we all worked hard and the result was one sparkling house and a very happy me. By far this was one of the best gifts to myself ever.

It's Okay To Get Help!

So if you're like me and have been struggling to get caught up in one area or another, I encourage you to get help. Even if it's once so you can get to a "I can take it from here" point, it will be worth every penny!

There is help for almost everything...yardwork, home repair, tutoring, organizing:)...you name it. If you're overwhelmed, please consider getting assistance. You deserve it!
